Les: A Special Introduction You have something special. You have greatness in you. Hello, I'm Les Brown, and I have a special guest today. But before I introduce my special guest, I've got to introduce the Emmy award winner, Lauren Hudson. How are you, Lauren? Lauren is an Emmy award-winning reporter who had some incredible moments broadcasting on television in Detroit, Michigan. "It's better to be seen than to be viewed."- Les Brown
Today, we have Andrea Mason, an accountability coach. Hello, Andrea! Hello, Dr. Brown. Hello, Lauren. It's an honor and a privilege to be here. An Inspiring Journey Andrea Mason's story is one of resilience and transformation. Born during the tumultuous years of the cartel era in Colombia, Andrea's beginnings were anything but simple. Her parents couldn't care for themselves, let alone a child. At eleven months old and eleven pounds, Andrea was adopted and brought to America. Andrea, tell us more about the work you're doing as an accountability coach. The Role of an Accountability Coach.
Andrea: As an accountability coach, I believe we all need motivation, accountability, and responsibility to overcome doubts and stay on the right path. I don't dictate or lecture; I walk beside my clients and ignite the spark they already have. Like my mentor, Les Brown, I encourage everyone to step into their greatness. But why did you decide to become an
accountability coach, Andrea? A Childhood of Challenges Growing up, I faced bullying and abuse because I was of Latina descent and my parents were American. I didn't look or sound like my parents, which made me an easy target. "At what point do we take the pen in our own hand?" -Andrea Mason I'll never forget a community function where some kids said, "You don't look like your parents." When I explained I was adopted, they cruelly remarked, "Your parents didn't love you." That moment was a turning point for me. I decided to change the narrative and move from victim to victorious. Transforming Adversity into Strength Growing up, I focused on self-awareness, mind over matter, and investing in myself. Dr. Les Brown often says we must take control of our life's story. Despite the bullying, I created my own identity and embraced life's adversities. Les: Talk about the challenges you faced growing up. What did it take for you to make that pivotal change? Overcoming Obstacles I faced many obstacles and naysayers who doubted my abilities. They said, "You don't have a degree, "You've always worked behind the scenes." But I was determined to prove them wrong—for them and for myself. I found my spark and knew I was here for emission. I incorporated discipline, dedication, structure, and planning into my life. "In order for you to have a solid foundation, you have to remember where you came from." - Andrea Mason Creating the Turning Point.
Les: Did you change your environment, or did you change within that environment? One pivotal moment was in 2007 when I lost my mother, my hero. Her passing had a profound impact on me. For nine years, I buried my head and groaned, but it took a toll on my health, landing me in the ICU. I remembered my mother's name, Victoria, and decided to make her legacy my fuel to move forward.
Les: You talk about pressing play on our lives. Help us understand how we can do that. Pressing play is about taking action. We can choose to be proactive, inactive, or stagnant. It's about contributing, controlling, and caring for our own lives. Your number one asset is your health: without it, you're not here. We all have choices—be a player on the field or stay on the sideline. The Services Andrea Provides
Les: Talk about the services you offer now. You're very inspiring and help empower others. I offer individual and group coaching, professional speaking, and a podcast called "Unleashing the Champion Within." I spotlight individuals and bring together global elites with
developing communities. This helps people remember where they came from and where they started. Les: Especially needed at a time like this, right? Absolutely. Staying Focused in a Distracting World
Les: In a world full of distractions, how do you advise people to stay focused on a purpose-driven life? It's not easy, but to be unplugged is to be on. External influences can be overwhelming but having a clear vision is essential. Just like a pilot needs a destination, we need a mission and a purpose. Follow Your Heart Les: You mentioned a mantra—follow your heart, not the herd, nor the hurt. "Follow your heart, not the herd or the hurt." - Andrea Mason We must align our actions with our morals, ethics, and values. It's okay to agree to disagree, but don't conform out of fear. Your experiences give you the certification and qualification to help others.
